In a handful of communities, buying a property makes you an automatic golf member — the membership comes with the home, along with a one-time initiation or capital-contribution fee (these generally range from about $75,000 to $165,000) plus annual dues. Those mandatory-membership communities are Wexford, Long Cove, Belfair, Colleton River, and Berkeley Hall. In many other Hilton Head and Bluffton communities, you can live there and choose whether to join the private club — including, but not limited to, Sea Pines Country Club, The Golf Club at Indigo Run, Hampton Hall, Moss Creek, May River in Palmetto Bluff and the newly opened Anson Point at Palmetto Bluff.
